The Venus Project and The Global Community

The Venus Project Website

The defining point for who The Venus Project is on the internet is its website. This website has changed over the years to provide less resources for those who want to discuss and share things on the internet about The Venus Project and a Resource Based Economy—but to what ends are these changes for?

The current changes to the website, may reflect a desire to maximize sales during Jacque Fresco’s 100’th birthday. This may mean that some time later we may see a more social network friendly website, rather then the broadcaster type or style that seems to be present right now.

This UN Novus Summit 2016 opens the communications with governments and groups all over the world that could organize the building of the first Resource Based Economy Test City. Phase 3: Experimental Research City [article]: The UN Novus Summit: “On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda… where technology meets humanity to transform the world… to inspire all generations to unite in action for positive humanitarian impact…”

From the way The Venus Project website has changed, it seems to want to act as a traditional style broadcaster. The Venus Project (based Aims and Proposals section of website) obviously feels that it can reach out to most of the seven billion people on this earth, despite the numerous other competitor broadcasters.

If the online community wants to discuss The Venus Project, and what a Resource Based Economy is: unusual questions will be very difficult to answer with The Venus Project using a broadcasting style of interaction.

If you are supporting The Venus Project online, these additional resources may be of assistance:

Facebook pictures don’t show up on twitter, so there is some loss there, but you can still share the links.

More Details

The Venus Project has been featured on this website (WordPress site) since 2011. During that time The Venus Project developed facilities to host an “online community that could be accessed by a log in screen on The Venus Project’s website.” The Venus Project also provided a FAQ section, free e-books, viral images, pamphlets, posters, and even computer background pictures.

Obviously the online community in 2011 to now had access to much bigger social networks such as twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, G+, and Pinterest to name a few, and did not necessarily need a special social space on The Venus Project’s website—but it was a nice touch.

Around 2015 to 2016, The Venus Project website updated periodically. Updates would often mean the website itself was no longer available for short periods of time—from a day to a week.

Gharr was absent for a time from the internet also, and some of those changes seemed sudden: such as no online community login on the website all of the sudden—that online-community had effectively vanished overnight seemingly.

The Venus Project periodically reduced resources to the online community till literally none existed. The current website does have some basic details about The Venus Project, but lacks a online community (to learn about The Venus Project), FAQ section, free e-books, viral images, pamphlets, posters, and even computer background pictures.

A lot of discussions, and questions do occur on social media, and it’s much harder to answer or respond to those questions without those resources.

The Venus Project Website (as of Feb 2016), landing page says: “Later you can become a volunteer and help to spread the word…” but this leaves a lot open to what that exactly means.

The tools that The Venus Project suggest (as of Feb 2016) are mentioned by others working with global teams as useful: TeamSpeak, Skype, Google Hangouts, Google Drive, MEGA (similar to google drive), Trello, and Slack (if the website changes again, this link may break).

The reasons for the changes to the website, and the resulting changes to the options the online community that support The Venus Project have, has not been formally explained to that very online community—at least not to Gharr, and possibly many other casual supporters of The Venus Project.

It is known that the core group at The Venus Project are very busy with many projects.

Gharr is currently in hiatus: “I miss writing all those articles, and sharing all those great things, and ideas on the internet.” 2015
