To prevent the code for a link being converted to an actual link, a span with class named nowshow was used for the h and that seemed to stop the auto-convert routine from working—which is desirable if mentioning a broken link.

Code tag makes font smaller. To make the font larger use font-size:large. For the shortened link font-size:medium was used. ref: http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_font_font-size.asp

To prevent the slide bar, had to use code tag instead of pre tag. both versions were used above for the note.
